Are you a champion? Would you like to be? The Alzheimer's Association needs people of passion and compassion to become champions for the cause?and YOU are invited, welcomed, urged and encouraged to be one!

According to Wikipedia "a champion is one who has repeatedly come out first among contestants in challenges or other tests, one who is outstandingly skilled in their field." In this year of Olympics, we all experience such champions in our living rooms each time we turn on the television. Wikipedia continues and speaks to another type of champion, the type you are asked to become. It is also possible to champion a cause. Such a champion may take on responsibility for publicizing a project and seeking funding. Such a champion is beyond a simple promoter.
If Alzheimer's disease is to be cured or even become a manageable disease like diabetes, champions are essential. Saturday, September 27, 2008 presents a unique opportunity to become a champion at the Alzheimer's Memory Walk. Hilltop Haven in Gunter, a community champion, will host the Texoma Area Memory Walk beginning at 10 a.m. with speakers, refreshments and walking champions. Canines and humans participate in the walk of less than a mile, sponsored by family, friends and businesses. Your support as part of Memory Walk will help advance the information that the public receives about Alzheimer's disease and the need for early diagnosis. It will help us provide support to area families dealing with Alzheimer's disease. It will help fund research to find disease altering drugs, and ultimately help find a cure for AD.
Champions are invited to be leaders by recruiting teams to join the walk. Those who would prefer to find sponsors and participate in the walk are welcome to join an existing team. Others who are unable to be at the walk but wish to champion the cause are invited to contribute. Make this the day your life as a champion begins by going to http://www.alz.org/greaterdallas/index.asp A few clicks on the computer will establish you as a champion helping to insure those with AD and their caregivers in Texoma receive the help they need as we strive together for a world without Alzheimer's. The direct link for Memory Walk in Gunter is http://guntermemorywalk2008.kintera.org/ The Chapter website, http://www.AlzDallas.org has more information about Memory Walk and all the programs and services provided in Texoma. For more information, or if you have questions, please email Dianna.Niemann-Harris@alz.org or call 903-416-1035.

Today is the best time in the world to become a champion?and a world weary of living with Alzheimer's disease will benefit from your time, energy and dollars.
